去年リリースされたEP『Post Human Survival Horror』では、先行シングルから毎回和訳解説したが、Lyraがチョイスが良いんだか、悪いんだか(笑)で、「SNSは社会悪になり得る」内容の歌詞などディープな世界が繰り広げられていて、かなりポテンシャルが上がったのを記憶している。追求している作品に惚れた。
LyraはOliの生真面目さが好きだ。追求して身を焦がしてしまっている気がして心配になるが、同じように「この世界の未来が暗転していくのを見逃すわけにはいかない」と正義感がある人には、彼の全てに共感するだろう。
音楽には、もはや昔の成功物語はない。大ブレイクしても昔みたいにアーティストには収入がドカンと入ってくることはないし、CDなどセールスが落ちている。特にロックにはTik Tok 効果のせいで売れなくなって来ている。
それでもやるのは、見て見ぬ振りが出来ないから。
Oliは、前作『Amo』が一位になったことについていう…
「必死に頑張って来たわけだから、クールだけど、誰が気にするんだ?俺たちのアルバムが一位だろが10位だろうが誰も気にしていないわけ。じゃあなんで自分達は、きにしているだってね。何の意味もないんだ。誰のためにやっているのか、自分達のエゴのためなのか、って考えると何の意味もないね-…エゴが語り始めるんだ。物質主義的になってしまうんだよ。フォロワーとか売上枚数を比較しなくても誇りに思えるものはたくさんあるからね」

【Parasite Eve】は、Bring Me The Horisonの曲で、プロデュースは、ヴォーカリストのOliver Sykesとキーボードの Jordan Fish。作詞作曲は。バンドがやっている。これは2020年6月25日のコマーシャル・リリースした『Post Human: Survival Horror 』からの2nd シングルである。この曲はPeter Lyondevによってかあかれ、ブルガリア女性声楽合唱団によって演奏された【Erghen Diado』をサンプリングしている。Lyondevは共作者としてクレジットされている。
『Post Human 〜』のプロジェクトについて、Bring Me the Horrizonにとって結果より過程の方が重要だと言う。ロックダウン中に書かれ、レコーディングされた曲であり、2020年の恐怖と混乱のリアルタイムな反応が具現化されたものである。ただOlieは、パンデミック以前に書いた物だと語っているため、Covid-19からインスピレーションをもらった訳ではないらしい。

曲について
この元ネタの【Parasite Eve】のゲームは、ミトコンドリア細胞が突然変異して進化したときに形成され、最終的に自己認識になり、人類を超えたホストを探しているイブと呼ばれる生物学的実体と戦っているアヤという名前の警官の物語だ。
イブは、犠牲者を自然発火させることで、地球上のすべての生命を脅かしている。この実体は、人類を自身の DNA を制御できる優れた生物に置き換えようと努めており、人類を地球から寄生する寄生虫と見なしているという内容である。
「生きている最後の日に達成したいことrについて尋ねられたとき、Oli Sykes は次のように述べている。
「 パラサイトイブの最も難しい設定でのスピードラン。」
音楽的には、Oli Sykes が DOOM Eternal というゲームをプレイしたことや、ゲームのサウンドトラック アーティストである Mick Gordon の貢献に多くの影響を受け、未来的でサイバーなオーバーレイを与えている。

Covid-19について
この歌詞が、コロナをテーマにして書いた物ではないとメンバーは言っているが、余りにも類似性があるため、インタビューされる度に聞かれてしまうのは仕方がないだろう。
Oliは、パンデミックについて語る5分間のモノローグを書いた。
「つまり、世界は今、めちゃくちゃな場所であり、他のみんなと同じように、俺たちは足を止められている。

歌詞について
Oliの言葉で歌詞の意味は分かると思うので、今日はいつもと違い簡単に解説しましょう。
この曲のイントロはブルガリア語で歌われている。直訳すると次のようになる。

女性グループ Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares の「Ergen Deda」からのサンプルだ。
各パーツにはビジョンがあり、ブルガリアの合唱団のボーカルから始まる異国感たっぷりなサウンドをより強調していると思う。

スラングはある。イギリスっぽさはあまりなくて共通なスラング。
ちなみに、Sneezeにはくしゃみする、くしゃみらが一般的な意味だが、スラングでコカインの意味があるので、今回Lyraはスラングの方で和訳しましたよ。Oliが余りにも世界的な現状を書いてしまったから、作品にしない方が良いかもと棚上げした意味がすごく分かる。Lyraも予言していたんだじゃないかると思うくらい世界情勢を描いた或る作品に出会って感想とか書いていたのだけど、世界がドンドンその作品通りになっていくので怖くなり「やめておこう」と書くのを中断してしまったものがある。その作品自体も打ち切りになってしまったから余計ヤバさが恐怖になった。(だって真実を知ったものは、みんな殺されちゃうのよ←作品の中の話だが。もう怖くはないけれど、2019年の時は怖かった)。
Bring Me The Horizonは、歌う。
現実の世界を。
夢物語で現実世界から逃避するのも良いだろう、人それぞれの考え方があるのだから、否定はしない。
ただ自分は現実から目を逸らさない生き方をして来たからOli達の生き方に共感する。臭いものに蓋をしろ、と言うのが社会の常だが、2度とあのような未知の恐怖に恐れたりしたくない。
私達は生きる。
だから酷いことから目を逸らさずに対処して、次の時にはより迅速に行動できるようになりたい。
それに次の世代に生きる術を残してやりたい。
私達の子供たちが絶望しないように。
打ちひしがれて生きることを諦めないように道を示してやりたい。

"Parasite Eve,” the second single from POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR, was recorded during the 2020’s quarantine and, although the inspiration for the track didn't come from the COVID-19 pandemic, there are a lot of references to it. The title comes from a 1998 survival horror game of the same name released by Square. The band said:
We’ve got to look that face to face. We’ve got to confront it. We’ve got to feel it. We’ve got to breathe it. We’ve got to live it sometimes to get through this. You know, it’s understandable that we want to repress these feelings, and sometimes becoming civilised requires us to repress aspects of ourselves that don’t fit in with the structured ideal of our society.
During the promotion of the song, the band changed their helix logo for a broken version.
The song was expected to be released on 2020, June, 10th, but was postponed due to the George Floyd protests and all Black Lives Matter protests around the world. As Oliver Sykes stated:
So as some of you know we were planning on releasing a new track this week. But with the incredible movement that is taking place currently we don’t feel comfortable releasing and promoting anything that takes the focus off what’s important right now. I know you will all understand because we have the best fans in the world and I promise you we won’t make you wait too long and the good news is more music will be coming soon after “Parasite Eve” too. But for now keep fighting the good fight and stay tuned.
The game tells the story of a cop named Aya who is fighting against a biological entity that calls itself Eve, who formed when a mitochondrial cell mutated and evolved,eventually
becoming self-aware and seeking a host beyond humanity.
Eve threatens all life on Earth by causing her victims to spontaneously combust. The entity seeks to replace
"Parasite Eve" has been described as a nu metal and electronic rock song with some elements of electropop.The song was inspired by the Japanese video game of the same name. It was written and composed by the band while in quarantining during the COVID-19 pandemic. The song samples "Erghen Diado" from the album Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares. The lyrics talk about what is happening during the pandemic, saying that "This is a war" between countries for discovering a vaccine. At the same time, Sykes talks about when the pandemic is overcome, while asking "If you survive the infection, will you remember the lesson?" to the people and the world leaders like U.S. President Donald Trump and Brazil President Jair Bolsarano that rejected and ignored the gravity of the virus. Musically, it was influenced a lot by Sykes playing the game Doom Eternal, as well as the contributions of the game soundtrack artist Mick Gordon, giving it a futuristic and cyber overlay. Sykes said about the lyrics of the song amid the similarity of the current world situation:

We shelved the song for a bit because it felt bit too close to the bone. After sitting on it for a while, we realised that this was a reason to release it now more than ever. In our music we've always wanted to escape, but there's been too much escapism and ignoring the problems in the world. It's not what the world needs. The world needs more and needs to think about it and remember. You can't just brush over it and expect life to go back to normal, because it fucking ain't. In so many ways, we need to change. That's what rock music is about – addressing the dark side and processing it..."

The band’s vocalist Oli Sykes wrote a Five- minute monologue talking about the pandemic:
So the world’s a fucked up place right now and just like everyone else, we’ve been stopped in our tracks. We were working on music. We were working on a new record. But just like the rest of the world, everything’s been kind of put on hold or at least we thought that anyway. After it became apparent that this lockdown weren’t going away anytime soon, we realised we need to start making music anyway possible because, you know, if we can’t go out and play shows, if we can’t go out and connect with the fans and do the thing that we love then we’re gonna go mad, because the members of Bring Me The Horizon probably haven’t been home for more than a month in about six years so we knew we’re gonna start going crazy. So we started to adapt. We started to figure out ways how we can still do this. How each member could record their own shit. How me and Jordan could write remotely and I think just like a lot of people, the way we were doing things before felt like the only way to do shit and then when you’re put in a situation like this and you’re forced to do things differently, you start to realise that there is a way to do things and it might not be as easy or it might be a little different, but it’s totally doable and that’s what we found while working on our new record.
[…] Right now is a very important time for escapism. Music and art and culture and everything is the best way and it’s a healthy way for people to escape reality. ‘Cause you know when the most helpful thing you can do right now is stay at home, it makes you feel kind of useless. We have to be able to escape. We have to be able to get this shit off our minds when there’s not much we can do about it as individuals right now. But the problem is when we escape reality sometimes we wanna stay there forever. Because if we don’t acknowledge the darkness that’s going on right now that can build up. Because we gotta face it. This is like the craziest shit any of us has really ever seen in our lifetimes.
We’ve got to look that face to face. We’ve got to confront it. We’ve got to feel it. We’ve got to breathe it. We’ve got to live it sometimes to get through this. You know, it’s understandable that we want to repress these feelings and sometimes becoming civilised requires us to repress aspects of ourselves that don’t fit in with the structured ideal of out society. But you know that comes at a great cost and for me music is the most powerful way to deal with anything. I feel like a song can express so much more than anything else that it’s important that we do, you know. Use it as tool to get through this and come out the other side ‘cause shit will be okay. It wasn’t like we were in a good place in the first place and we need to make sure we’re not just ignoring this, because if we do, we’re doomed to repeat the same mistakes. So we’re gonna be sharing our progress with you. You’re gonna see how we write remotely. How we record remotely and everything in between. So watch this space. There’s a vision for each part. It starts with Bulgarian choir vocals, which is something I really got into at the start of the year and listened to a lot, appreciating the history behind it. In some regions, it’s closely linked to ceremonies involving walking over hot coals and they go into this trance. When I hear vocals like that—maybe because it’s sung in different scales and rhythms to Western music—it has this euphoric feeling, but also because it’s so foreign to me it has this feeling of panic and chaos. It felt like the perfect way to open a song that is about essentially that. When it goes into the first verse it’s all about that up-close, claustrophobic feeling, it’s that four-to-the-floor beat: it’s very atonal and in your face like an alarm’s gone off. It’s trying to embody the lyrics and the illustration I’m trying to give with the words.
